Our Story

We built Chamber because we felt hesitant about recording our most private moments. We trusted each other but we were each still concerned about the risks of sharing private photos or videos across standard messaging platforms. We also didn't want to store them on our normal camera roll in case our family or friends scrolled a little too far when looking at holiday snaps...

 

So we created a solution both for ourselves and for other couples.

It’s built around mutual consent, meaning both partners must approve access for the content can be viewed. Most importantly, either person can temporarily remove consent to view or permanently delete any content at any time.

What makes Secure Chamber different from other “encrypted vault” apps?

Most vault apps are designed for individuals and are not designed with intimacy in mind. Chamber is purpose-built for couples and focuses on mutual trust and consent. Both partners have equal control over when content is accessible and when it’s not. It combines end-to-end encryption, biometric login and consent-based access into one seamless experience.

How does consent-based access work?

When you and your partner have an account, you can create a shared album called a “chamber.” To open it, both users must approve access from their devices. If either user wants to lock the content, the chamber instantly becomes inaccessible to both until mutual approval is re-established.

How is content protected?

All photos and videos are end-to-end encrypted and stored securely in the cloud. Nothing is stored unencrypted on a device. Chamber also uses multi-factor authentication, biometric login and screenshot prevention on supported platforms.

Can Secure Chamber staff or third parties see user content?

No. Content is encrypted before it leaves the device and can only be decrypted by the two linked partners. Chamber cannot view or access user content.

I can't open one of my chambers. Why is that?

There are a couple of reasons why this may be the case:

1. You or your partner have locked the chamber

If you have locked the chamber all you need to do is unlock it by clicking on the lock icon at the top right of the chamber and changing your consent.

If your partner has locked the chamber you can send them a notification in the app to request them to unlock it. You can only send one request every 24 hours, so if you don't see the request button just wait until the next day. It is their choice whether to open it. Any coercion is not tolerated. 

2. Your partner's subscription may have lapsed

If your partner's subscription has lapsed they have 60 days to reactivate it before all of their chambers and the content within them are permanently deleted. This action is permanent and cannot be undone. To maintain your content in the app it is important to keep both of your subscriptions active.

I don't want the content to be visible to the other user anymore. What are my options?

You have three options in this scenario.

  1. Lock the chamber temporarily: click on the lock icon at the top right of the chamber and use the toggle next to your name to lock it. You can give consent again at any time.

  2. Delete an individual piece of content: click on the individual image or video you want to delete and press the bin icon in the lower left corner of the screen. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

  3. Delete a whole chamber: click on the lock icon at the top right of the chamber and press "Delete chamber" at the bottom of the screen. Note that after 24 hours this action is permanent and the content cannot be recovered.

What happens if someone deletes a chamber?

If either you or your partner choose to delete a chamber, all content within it is erased. Within 24 hours of deletion it can be recovered only by the user who initiated the deletion by clicking on the bin icon at the top right of the home screen, opening the settings of the chamber and clicking on "recover this chamber". After 24 hours the deletion is permanent and there is no recovery mechanism. This feature exists by design to protect our users.

If my partner has an account, do I need one too?

Yes. All individual users need an active account. This ensures each user retains personal control over the content. If either of your accounts lapses, your chambers will be locked and the content within them will not be accessible by either user.  Your chambers and the content stored within them will be permanently deleted after 60 days of an inactive subscription. Please note that this cannot be undone. To recover your content within 60 days simply renew your subscription in the app or the app store.

Do I need a partner to open a chamber?

Yes. At the moment, this tool is designed for two people to jointly manage their content.

Can each chamber have more than two members?

Not yet, but if you are interested in opening a chamber for more than 2 people then let us know via email at team@secure-chamber.com or slide into our DMs at instagram.com/securechamber. We are always making changes to improve your experience.

Can I have multiple chambers each with different partners?

Yes. You can have as many different chambers with as many different partners as you want. You can even have different chambers with the same partner for different types of content like solo play and partner content, for example.

Does Chamber store any personal data?

Only minimal information is stored: login credentials, encrypted keys and device identifiers required for security. No personal media or text data is used for analytics or shared with third parties.

How much does it cost?

Chamber is available through a simple subscription:

  • $2.99 per month per person

  • $29.99 per year per person

Please note that for your protection, both partners need an active subscription to maintain access to the content.
